Structural Engineering Services in Accra, Ghana
As a structural engineer based in Accra, I design and analyse load-bearing systems for buildings and infrastructure across Ghana and the wider West African region. Ghana's construction sector is growing rapidly — apartment complexes, commercial towers, institutional buildings, and mixed-use developments demand rigorous structural engineering that balances cost, safety, and constructability on local sites.
My structural engineering practice covers the full design cycle: from initial concept and load analysis, through member sizing and reinforcement detailing, to production of calculation packs and drawing mark-ups ready for the drafting team. I work across reinforced concrete frames, masonry wall structures, steel portal frames, and composite systems.
Reinforced Concrete Frame Design
Reinforced concrete remains the dominant construction material across Ghana and West Africa, and designing it well requires deep familiarity with local aggregate quality, site batching practices, and the Ghana Building Code. I model RC frames using structural engineering software, derive critical load cases using BS 8110 and derive independent hand calculations to verify software output. Recent projects include multi-storey apartment frames for residential developers in Accra and Greater Accra.
Foundation Design for Ghana's Soil Conditions
Foundation failure is one of the most costly outcomes in Ghanaian construction, and local soil conditions vary considerably — from competent laterite to expansive clay and made-ground fills on former lagoon margins. I carry out soil investigation interpretation, produce raft, pad, and strip foundation designs, and calculate bearing pressures and settlements to confirm safe load transfer. Every foundation design includes a calculation pack with clear references to geotechnical data and code compliance.
Steel & Portal Frame Structures
For industrial, warehouse, and long-span commercial applications, steel portal frames offer speed and economy. I design portal frames and secondary steel members — purlins, side rails, bracing — and provide detailed mark-ups for fabrication. My work at Broad Consult Ltd included technical design documents for modular steel bridge superstructures and substructures across multiple sites in Ghana.
Structural Assessments & Condition Surveys
Existing buildings in Ghana often require structural assessment before refurbishment, change of use, or additional floors. I carry out visual and measured condition surveys, identify structural deficiencies, and prepare engineering recommendations for remedial works or strengthening.
